Making Transitions to Employment or Postsecondary (Part 2)

In an IET, training, employer, and workforce partners should identify the services they offer to help completers take the next steps. Work directly with those contacts: milestones and measurable skill gains toward the credential, test prep and support to earn it, job search assistance (including interviews and internships), and—when learners continue in the pathway—referrals for postsecondary enrollment, financial aid, and other supports.

Making Transitions to Employment or Postsecondary (Part 3)

Have specific people and processes for next steps. For example, assign AEL career navigators and Workforce Solutions employment specialists to assist with job placement and retention for IET-related jobs. If students continue to postsecondary, connect them with counselors, academic advisors, or career navigators who know the pathway and enrollment requirements. Ensure each student has a transition support plan that is monitored by a designated person as they progress through and complete the IET.

KEY IDEA

The student’s Individual Training, Education, and Career (ITEC) Plan should be updated as they progress into an IET and upon completion.

  • Is there someone to support the learner to stay employed or persist in postsecondary?
  • Is a transition support plan (ITEC) in place and monitored?
